Closure of Admiralty Pier from Storm Damage
The Admiralty Pier has been closed by Dover Harbour Board until further notice due to storm damage to the Pier’s structure.
The Admiralty Pier
The Admiratly is currently CLOSED
The Admiralty Pier at the extreme western end of the harbour provides excellent sport the year round and is managed by the DSAA with stewards on hand every day. The cost of a day ticket is £7.00 (non-members), £6.00 for DSAA Members and just £4.00 for Senior Citizens and children.
Bass can be caught early morning or evening, Mackerel during the summer, excellent size Cod during the winter months but also Plaice and Huss. This Pier attracts anglers from far and wide.
The Admiralty Pier has two fishing areas; the first is the shore end as far as “The Turret” which is mid way and then the Pier Extension where many of the larger fish are landed but there are strong tides running at times so good tackle is recommended at all times.
During the summer months excellent catches of Mackerel are always being reported with anglers sometimes landing as many as five or six fish at a time. Feathers and other artificial lures are best.
The Prince of Wales Pier
The Prince of Wales Pier is now closed due to the Harbour Expansion project.
The Prince of Wales Pier, named after Edward VII who, when the Prince of Wales, laid the foundation stone in 1892. Originally accessed from Dover Seafront, The Prince of Wales Pier was best described as “family-friendly”, where mums and dads or grandparents could take their youngsters to fish in safety.
Sadly this excellent Pier, which used to be the only fishable Pier when gales put paid to the Southern Breakwater and Admiralty Pier, has now been swallowed up by the redevelopment of the Western Docks and will never be fished again.
A new shorter pier has been created as part of the redevelopment was was meant to have accommodated anglers in the same manner as the Prince of Wales used to do. But being much narrower and directly opposite the new outer marina, in reality this was never going to be permitted.
** Breaking News ** Night Fishing Now Available!
Following the closure of the Admiralty Pier it has been decided to open Dover’s Southern Breakwater for night fishing from 7pm to 7am Friday & Saturday nights. Also available Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday day sessions 8am to 3.30pm. All subject to weather conditions. [Read more…]

Cod are now being caught on both the Admiralty Pier and Dover Southern Breakwater. [Read more…]

The Prince of Wales Pier is the family-friendly preference for Anglers young and old. A café is available at the end of the Pier and is open most days (including weekends), supplying a wide range of hot and cold food and drinks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Angling in Dover
Why is the Southern Breakwater closed?
Due to Health and Safety regulations, the Southern Breakwater has now been permanently closed to all angling activity.
When is the Admiralty Pier open?
Please refer to our Facebook page for details on the Admiralty Pier.
After fishing on the Admiralty Piers all day, why do I have to pay again to stay on?
Fishing on the Admiralty Pier is on a Per Session basis. When the Pier is open, in Summer there is a day time and evening session and in Winter just the day time session. At weekends there is also an overnight session. A session fee is payable for each one.
Why is the Admiralty Pier Extension sometimes closed?
It is necessary to close the Extension (second half) of the Admiralty Pier during the Summer when there is a Cruise Liner due in on Berth 2. Dover Harbour Board insist on the closure due to security reasons.
How can I find out when the Admiralty Pier Extension will be closed?
The Cruise Liner schedule can be found at www.doverport.co.uk under Cruises. In order to determine if the Extension will be closed, look to see if there are two or more ships due to be in on the day in question. This will be a good indication as to whether the Extension will be closed. However, The Cruise timetable is subject to late change and Dover Sea Angling Association has no control over the production of this timetable or any unadvertised changes made to it. lease refer to our Facebook page for up to date information.
Are there any facilities on the Admiralty Pier?
Facilities on the Admiralty Pier are minimal and basic. There is a Ladies and Gents toilet half way along the Pier and a small Canteen at about the same point. Dover Sea Angling Association do not run the Canteen and therefore cannot be responsible for opening times and cannot guarantee it will be open at any set time. When open, the Canteen does provide hot & cold drinks, some confectionery and limited hot snacks.
Why is the Admiralty Pier sometimes closed?
It is sometimes necessary to close the Admiralty Pier in adverse and dangerous weather conditions. This is for the anglers own protection as in high winds, the sea can wash over the top of the Pier, potentially causing damage and therefore putting lives at risk. On other occasions, the Admiralty Pier maybe closed early due to no anglers being present. This is generally more likely earlier in the year.
